For project one, I created a pixel art landscape depicting Ponte Vecchio as it could appear now or during the Renaissance. I created it in an online program called Pixelart.com. I was originally thinking of doing more of a branded landscape, like including businesses on a street or something more connected to our trip to the museum, but eventually settled on Ponte Vecchio because of the story of the guards checking the lit registers was really interesting to me. When looking at ways to style it I came across pixel art which I’ve done in the past and I was particularly reminded of a game called The Last Door which is a low-resolution mystery game I played in like middle school. It gave me a lot of inspiration because it has really basic animation and graphics but the story and sound of the game really brings it to life. I plan to continue the project into our further projects to bring it closer to this feeling of an eerie landscape that while not visually stunning, is made interesting by the few choices you’re given. In this, I just have a stationary guard standing looking out, but I plan to add movement to the guard and elements in the environment including sound and changes to the scene to make it more alive. As is, I like it but I feel like I didn’t really nail every part. I really struggled to show depth, especially in the tile “roof” and the shop fronts.
